Rosary Vigil
7:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Miracle doves are back in force

Praying pilgrims were swept to their feet in joy and excitement when pure white doves, sometimes numbering in the hundreds, put on a 2-hour spectacle in the cold night sky above the Vatican Pavilion. It was very reminiscent of the Miracle of the Doves of two years ago.

In our best shot of the doves, you can see their torso and outstretched wings. (see especially, top left) We took numerous photographs but, as you can imagine, capturing cruising doves high in the dark sky is a formidable challenge and beyond the equipment we had that night.

This sensational display of beauty and grace brought cries and tears from the crowd of about a hundred faithful who had braved harsh and wintry conditions for this Vigil that honors the apparitions of Our Lady to Bernadette of Lourdes, France in 1858.

There was about six inches of snow on the ground--it had snowed about two inches before the Vigil--and the temperature was in the 20's with a brisk wind.  The real-feel temperature was in the single digits.  But as we always say, the warm hearts of the faithful with their love and offerings to Jesus and Mary always keep the sacred grounds a warm and nice place to be.

This startling gift from Heaven unfolded about 8:15 p.m., when two doves were spotted in the cloudy sky after the second Rosary and during the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  As the sky cleared, the miracle doves gradually increased until its peak, about 9:30 p.m., when flocks of a hundred or more would regularly take flight across the cloudless sky for the next 45 minutes.

The doves were pure and white and they were mostly of normal size. It seems like they would appear out of nowhere and then a minute later mysteriously disappear and then another flock would emerge.

It was a spectacle that electrified the crowd and, fittingly, at 10:30 p.m., several doves flew over Our Lady's Shrine to top off the Vigil.

Welcome to Our Lady of the Roses, Mary Help of Mothers Shrine staffed and directed by St Michael's World Apostolate.

Today's Vigil is very special for all Baysiders devotees because this Shrine is the Lourdes of America.  A miraculous spring and basilica will one day grace this land just as in Lourdes, France.

Send us your petition and it will be placed at the feet of Our Lady at the next Rosary Vigil.
Snow fell for most of the afternoon turning the Shrine grounds into a winter wonderland.
Look for the St Michael's World Apostolate banner when you come.
The Shrine grounds were breathtaking this evening
At the end of each Rosary, the pilgrims bow down and pray: "My God, I believe, I adore, I trust and I love Thee. I beg pardon for all those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love Thee."
At 9 p.m. the invocation of the blessing of Jesus and Mary: "All who are able to kneel, please kneel, and with faith lift your Rosary up to Heaven and Jesus and Mary will bless us."
Jesus and Our Lady promised to be present at the sacred grounds as long as one person comes here to pray.
Michael Mangan, President of St Michael's World Apostolate, interviews Antonia Rehrl of Long Island, N.Y., for St. Michael's Radio Program  This was the first time she saw the flight of the miraculous doves.

Listen to St. Michael's Radio online.  You can also order show #264.

Peter Frank, lay Order of St. Michael member, leads the final Rosary at the Vigil this evening.
Vincent McDonnell, Vigil Coordinator, leads the pilgrims in traditional hymns, including Come Holy Ghost.
With a vigil candle raised, pilgrims repeat the invocation:
Mary, light of the World, pray for us
Our Lady of the Roses, pray for us
Mary, Help of Mothers, pray for us.
