The Latin Vulgate Bible, translated by St. Jerome (342-420), soon became and remained the only official Bible of the Catholic Church for over 1500 years. The Douay Rheims Version (1582-1610)--revised by Bishop Richard Challoner (1749-1752)--is one of the most accurate English translations of the old Latin Vulgate Bible. It was the only Catholic English translation of Scripture commonly in use for over 200 years.
